The manufacturers of Xarelto, a new class of blood thinner, have been sued in federal court for the Eastern District of New York by a Texas woman who alleges that their failure to warn and perform sufficient safety testing on the blood thinner lead to her serious injuries. This lawsuit is one of many that have been filed against Janssen and Bayer AG with similar allegations. The filed complaint is available to read below and the case is listed under the federal court docket number: 1:14-CV-04524.
The Problem With Xarelto
Xarelto was first approved by the FDA for use in the USA in 2011. It was marketed as a more convenient alternative to Warfarin since it had a uniform dosage that did not require frequent blood testing. Xarelto was approved for use to prevent blood clots in patients who had atrial fibrillation, knee replacement, hip replacement, and deep vein thrombosis. However, as alleged in the complaint, the manufacturers failed to warn that there is no antidote to reverse the anti coagulation effect of the blood thinner, whereas Warfarin can be reversed by boosting Vitamin K.
